Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) & Reproductive Health Society
Established in 2020, our aim is to educate medical students and beyond about the often underrepresented topic of sexual health. Being comfortable discussing intimate and personal topics is an integral part of medical school, and we want to give students the tools to feel calm, confident and knowledgeable.
We run events throughout the academic year, including career talks, educational and revision lectures, practical and exam related presentations (e.g. preparing for OSCEs, taking a sexual history) and social events.
Our Facebook page will keep you up to date with the latest sexual health news, as well as giving you handy top tips for exams, revision and clinical placements (join our FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/512739129390836, or find us as UoL GUM & Reproductive Health Society). We are also on Instagram as @uolgumsoc.
Community Sexual and Reproductive Health is one of the most competitive specialties in medicine, with 18 applicants per place this year (HEE data 2020 application round), yet core sexual health topics form only a small part of medical education, and placement activity in this area is even more minimal. We are here to plug that gap and raise the profile of sexual health.
